2.0 ECE 22.06 CERTIFICATION AND COMPLIANCE

2.1 Helmet Certification

The Aegis Rider Vision helmet (model AR-100-1000) is homologated to ECE Regulation No. 22.06, the current European motorcycle helmet safety standard. The ECE 22.06 certification mark ("E"-mark) is found on the chin strap of the helmet. The helmet has been tested exclusively in its original configuration. Subsequent modifications or the attachment of accessories may impair its protective function.

⛔ WARNING: Helmet homologation applies only to the unmodified configuration.

Modifications to the helmet shell or to safety-relevant components may result in the helmet no longer meeting the requirements of the type approval and no longer being considered approved for use on public roads.

2.2 Other Certifications

In addition to ECE 22.06, the Aegis Rider Vision helmet's electronic components carry CE marking in accordance with applicable EU directives. The helmet is subject to the EU General Product Safety Regulation.

3.0 INTENDED USE AND RESTRICTIONS

3.1 Intended Use

This helmet is a protective helmet for motorcyclists and has been tested and type-approved in accordance with UNECE-R 22.06 in the configuration as delivered.

3.2 Prohibited Uses

⛔ WARNING: Using this helmet for any purpose other than its intended use creates serious risk of injury or death.

3.3 Safe Riding with Electronic Features

⛔ WARNING: Never interact with the Companion App or adjust settings while riding.

All adjustments to the Companion App, helmet settings, navigation, or any other electronic feature must be made while completely stationary and off the road. Interacting with electronic features while riding constitutes a serious distraction and may result in an accident, causing serious injury or death.

Additional operating requirements:

  • Always obey all applicable traffic laws.
  • Electronic features are complementary infotainment features only and do not replace attentive, defensive riding.

4.0 HELMET FIT AND WEARING

4.1 Selecting the Correct Size

Correct helmet fit is essential for safety. A helmet that is too large or too small cannot provide adequate protection in an accident. To find your size, measure your head circumference at the widest point (approximately 2.5 cm above the eyebrows). Use the following size chart:

Shell sizeHelmet sizeCentimetresInches
Small helmet shellXS53 / 5420.9 / 21.3
S55 / 5621.7 / 22.0
Medium helmet shellM57 / 5822.4 / 22.8
L59 / 6023.2 / 23.6
Large helmet shellXL61 / 6224.0 / 24.4
XXL63 / 6424.8 / 25.2
3XL65 / 6625.6 / 26.0

4.2 Fitting the Helmet

Before each ride, verify correct fit:

  • The helmet must fit snugly around the entire head with no painful pressure points and no gaps between the helmet padding and your head.
  • With the chin strap closed and fastened, you must not be able to remove the helmet from your head even with significant force applied.
  • Perform left and right rotation movements with the helmet on your head. The helmet must not shift or wobble.
  • The helmet must be comfortable and enclose the entire head.

4.3 Chin Strap

⛔ WARNING: Always fasten the chin strap correctly before riding.

The chin strap must be correctly adjusted and should sit below the chin and must not rest on the voice box or throat. A correctly fastened chin strap is critical to keeping the helmet on your head in the event of an accident. Never ride with an unfastened or incorrectly adjusted chin strap.

5.0 COMBINED PRODUCT USE WARNINGS

5.1 Third-Party Accessories

⛔ WARNING: Do not install non-approved accessories.

Installing non-approved accessories, components, or modifications on this helmet voids all safety certifications (including ECE 22.06) and the product warranty. Aegis Rider AG accepts no liability for any accident, injury, or damage resulting from use of non-approved accessories.

6.0 BATTERY AND ELECTRONIC SAFETY

6.1 Lithium-Ion Battery

⛔ WARNING: Lithium-ion battery hazard.

The helmet contains an integrated 7,000 mAh lithium-ion battery (3.6V nominal). The battery is not user-replaceable. Do not attempt to remove, open, pierce, bend, or crush the battery. Do not expose to fire, open flames, or temperatures above 50°C. Failure to comply may result in fire, explosion, or serious injury.

  • If the helmet emits unusual odors, excessive heat, or smoke, immediately cease use, move away from flammable materials, and contact Aegis Rider support.
  • Do not use the helmet if the battery appears swollen, deformed, or if the helmet housing near the battery area is distorted.
  • Do not expose the helmet to liquids beyond its rated IP65 protection (rain and splashing is fine; do not submerge).

6.2 Charging

  • Use only the supplied USB-C cable, or a replacement USB-C cable with CE approval, and a power adapter meeting CE approval standards.
  • Do not charge the helmet in environments with temperatures outside -10°C to +40°C.
  • Do not leave the helmet charging unattended for extended periods.
  • Do not charge on soft furnishings (beds, sofas) that restrict ventilation.

6.3 Operating Environment

The Aegis Rider Vision helmet is designed to operate within the following environmental limits:

⛔ WARNING: Do not use outside specified temperature range.

Operating the helmet below -10°C or above +50°C ambient temperature may critically affect safety-relevant systems (i.e. battery fire) or reduce battery life. Battery capacity is reduced in extreme cold.

7.0 HELMET CARE, MAINTENANCE, AND REPLACEMENT

7.1 Replacement After Impact

⛔ WARNING: Replace the helmet after any accident or significant impact, even if no visible damage is apparent.

This helmet is designed to absorb impact energy through controlled deformation of its inner EPS (expanded polystyrene) liner. Even if the helmet looks undamaged after an impact, the EPS liner may have been compressed and its protective capability permanently reduced. Continued use of an impacted helmet may result in inadequate protection in a subsequent accident.

  • Replace the helmet immediately if any of the following are observed: cracks or damage to the outer shell; damage to the visor or visor mechanism; deformation or damage to the EPS liner; damage to the chin strap or retention system; any electronic component that fails after an impact.
  • Contact Aegis Rider support (support@aegisrider.com) if you are uncertain whether your helmet requires replacement after an incident.

7.2 Service Life

Even without any accident, a motorcycle helmet should be replaced periodically due to material ageing from UV radiation, sweat, oil, and other environmental factors. The materials used in both the shell and the inner liner degrade over time, even without visible signs.

  • As a general guideline, replace the helmet every 5 to 7 years from the date of purchase, even if it has not been involved in an accident.
  • Replace the electronic components, or the whole helmet, if the battery capacity has degraded significantly or if electronic components are no longer functioning correctly. Contact Aegis Rider support for assessment.

8.0 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

8.1 If any component of the helmet malfunctions during a ride

  • If any component of the helmet malfunctions during the ride or you notice any issue: slow down safely, pull over immediately and remove the helmet.
  • Do not attempt to diagnose or fix electronic issues while riding.
